He grew up in this work.
Scott did not choose criminal defense out of a textbook. He grew up watching his father, Stephen T. Rabaut, a respected Michigan defense attorney, stand up for people on the worst day of their lives. He saw early what this work really is: treating people with dignity when they are scared and the whole system feels against them. He later clerked under his father before building his own practice. The Rabaut name has been part of Michigan criminal defense for decades, and Scott carries it on his own terms.
He has seen the system from more than one side.
Scott has not only sat at the defense table. He supervised people after conviction through the Michigan Department of Corrections with the Macomb County Parole and Probation Department. He worked in loss prevention and asset protection. And he served in the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office during a school externship. He has defended citizens in private firms and in his own practice ever since. He has seen how cases get built, what evidence really means, and what happens to a person after a conviction. That perspective shapes how he defends you.
He sees the person, not just the case.
Scott believes what the Constitution promises: everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and everyone is entitled to the same rights, no matter the charge. A big part of his job is making sure none of those rights get violated anywhere in the process. He also works to get clients struggling with addiction into treatment through court-sponsored programs, because for a lot of people the charge is not the whole story. To Scott, you are a person, not a file.
